First Visit

Is my child too young for orthodontics?

The American Dental Association recommends that children first visit the orthodontist at age 7. While most children do not require any treatment at this age, it gives Dr. Bode a chance to catch any issues before they become big problems. Dr. Bode will give you and your child information about what to expect for dental development over the next couple years. If necessary, Dr. Bode may request to see your child annually to make sure teeth come in as expected.

What to expect during your first visit

The first visit is easy (and free)! The first thing we do is take photos of your teeth and an x-ray. Then, Dr. Bode will do an exam and talk to you about your teeth concerns. She will put together a treatment plan based on your needs and will discuss this with you. The photos are used during the discussion so that you can see everything. If you are ready for treatment, the treatment fee and payment options will be discussed. If you are not ready for treatment, we will give you a timeline for treatment. The first visit typically takes one hour.

Transferring treatment

Did you recently move to Richmond and you’re searching for a place to continue your orthodontic treatment? Look no further! We are comfortable continuing treatment started by another orthodontist. Your first visit will include a discussion of what treatment remains and the anticipated timing.  We do not complete work on your braces at this visit. We hope to see you soon and we look forward being involved in your treatment!
